Perversion of bids to re-breed extinct quagga
The quagga was the least-striped of zebras but also the darkest. Attempts to recapture the appearance of this subspecies by artificial selection from the closest-related subspecies have succeeded in the case of the striping but failed categorically in the case of the overall tone – producing the palest phenotype ever recorded among zebras.
